TruEnergy Meets Ofgem Target Smart Meter installs for the FOURTH Year Running

2025 has come to a close and with it we close off another successful chapter of our smart meter rollout. Due to the exceptional work of our metering team in 2024 with fantastic support form our engineering partners at SMS, Tru vastly exceeded all targets for installations last calendar year. As a result, our targeted smart meter installations for electricity for 2025 was set at 0.

That said due to our commitment to smart metering and our ghouls for a fully smart portfolio, we were still able to install 2,114 Smets2 Electricity Meters at domestic properties that have never had a smart or advanced meter installed previously.

For Gas metering, we were set a challenging target of 1541 smart meter installations at domestic properties supplied by TruEnergy. There are a number of obstacles we faced to reaching this target. These include a delay in the rollout of AltHAN kits that allow for installations of smart gas devices outside of the standard range of communications hubs, which we have now been rolling out to qualifying buildings; this has now opened up a previously untenable world of smart gas metering which we will be capitalising on

Another big hurdle was a country-wide push to remove old RTS metering systems due to the sunsetting of the network RTS meters use to control electricity only heating. As these are only ever installed in electricity only households, there has been vastly less engineering resources available for gas works for any supplier.

Despite the huge obstacles, through hard work and determination of our team we squeezed past the post, installing a credited total of 1542 Smets2 Gas meters total in 2025.

Similarly for our Non-Domestic targeted installs TruEnergy had a target of installing 8 smart or advanced gas meters for our business customers. This was again challenging due to the resource constraints mentioned above, but again due to the team’s perseverance in the face of adversity we were able to install a credited 8 Smart Gas Meters in our non-domestic properties, meeting the target for the fourth rollout year.

TruEnergy would like to take this opportunity to thank our metering team for the continued great work this year towards our Smets2 rollout. We would also like to thank our 3rd party engineering partners at SMS & their continued help and support with all of our metering projects moving forward.

While no formal targets have been set by Ofgem moving into 2026, TruEnergy is aiming to hit 83.5% smart coverage across our portfolio by the end of this year. Let’s make this year count!
